The songs in my head

I need music to make it through the long hours at the office - and lately I've been tuning into i-radio to get through the day.

Listening to this internet-based station is good practice for my Japanese listening skills, as the same programs are repeated several times a week. Each time, I understand more and more - although the repetition means that songs often get stuck in my head too. There are two that have been running through my mind for over a week - RAIN / THAT / SOMETHING from セカイイチ and Crazy for You from Chara. Funny thing is that I'm not a big fan of pop music when it's in English - but there's definitely something catchy about J-pop!

Running for hours

It's a big weekend for sports here in Chicago! This morning Cubs fans had something to take their minds off yesterday's big loss as more than 40,000 runners took to the streets for the 30th Chicago Marathon. The course took runners all over the city - from Grant Park all the way north to Wrigleyville, back south to Bridgeport and Chinatown, and concluding back at the lakefront. We watched from mile two, where top runners cruised past just minutes into the race - and well ahead of the masses.

Over in a flash

Just like that, the Cubs hopes of ending a century of futility are over. In three quick games, the Arizona Diamondbacks swept the Cubs right out of the playoffs. I would say it was fun while it lasted, but honestly it was a little ugly to see the Cubs duck out without much of a fight. Well, as we always say around here - there's always next year!

They could go all the way

For the first time since 2003, the Chicago Cubs are in the playoffs! After clinching the National League Central title last weekend, the Cubs geared up to face the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round of their quest to win their first World Series... since 1908. Will this be the year that the curse will be lifted?
